WORLDs LARGEST IT COMPETITION - ROUND UP 2018

World Champions! - No Teaching Required

Embedding industry certification into core curricula, through a 5 stage digital transformation and education renewal strategy, continues to be the catalyst for explosive student engagement, creativity and output.

In this example, over 1350 participants have now gained 5766 industry certifications with 2206 gained so far this year, almost surpassing 2017's entire year, with a term to go.

The net effect, through a proven rethink of how to transform NCEA (including embedding certification into core-curricula), across 600 students, has been 17,000 hours of student output from Autodesk design, Adobe Creativity, Microsoft Software and or creative output development. Students have delivered end-end projects gaining near triple the National average in "credits" with a level of output, thinking and delivery that far exceeds the NCEA fact-based recall levels that erodes a students preparedness for the world.

This level of engagement has occurred through students, in highly objective personalised learning methods, gaining the knowledge and skills, in achieving internationally benchmarked qualifications, to produce industry-ready outputs reflected by over 26,000 hours of training system utilisation [in 1 of 12 systems], made up of and rising to 39%, in 2018, for out of school hours utilisation for learning sessions 55-minute+.

With this in mind, with education agencies promoting and implementing major vendor technologies for a digital world across education, it is now crucial (to realise investment-returns) that learners are prepared to utilise, create and deliver outcomes using these technologies - with academic credentials and skill development put to the highest international standards. With a world of cross-subject certification emerging, the evidence, accessibility to 24/7 digital education and ability to enable schools to transform, embedding certification in core-curricula is a “must-do” if any credibility is to occur with the NCEA review.

However, the real power of embedding Industry Certification into NCEA steps way beyond qualifications and or providing students with up to date technology learning. For all students, of all persuasions, topping things the certification value proposition is the transformational and personal power, confidence, competitiveness, team-spirt and teamwork, determination and life-long learning attributes installed in young people - as expressed by Certiport’ s round up of celebrations and accomplishments at the World’s largest IT competition.

With that - questions are often asked "what are the secrets to success"?

The answer(s) is (are) actually very simple:

Abandon single-loop direct or instructional teaching for course delivery, post-learning assessment: implement triple loop.

  • Abandon or replace the educational restrictions of limited outcome short-period timetabled classes: create extended learning opportunities: Modernise school structures for the 21st century (noting 18 years has elapsed).

  • Erode teacher admin, reduce wastage, reduce band-aid education programmes, transfer both outcomes into education: Implement 24/7 digital automation and learning tools.

  • Abandon BYOD. Implement race-to-top technologies.

  • Let go of systems that reinforce teacher-at-front and post-learning assessment paradigm(s).

  • Create an environment that enables students to embrace systems, design and critical thinking - providing content, feedback and or learning prompts, to them in a manner detected by intelligent platforms (which are mechanisms a teacher at the front of a class are unable to detect (or offer)).
